PATRIOT DOLLARS

Patriot Dollars are simply US Dollars that our members stamp with a patriotic symbol and/or message. It is "legal tender" before and after. The symbol  or message does not impair the instrument's usefulness as legal tender/ currency.

Why do we do it? 

By stamping it, our members express their First Amendment right to support our 12 Principles, to protest the government's policies and the politics of division that have taken the US far from our country's founding principles. It also unifies our community because people get a chance to see our community's vast economic buying power. In fact, we estimate that our community contributes over $6 trillion to the US economy.

We believe members should use Patriot Dollars throughout their day. It is also a great way to open a discussion and make new friends. Tell them about your Patriot Dollars and what the community stands for.

Join our community and get a membership card and order a stamp or order Patriot Dollars that we stamp for you. Then use your Patriot Dollars. The symbol we use is proprietary - so no one except members of the Patriot Community Foundation can legally use it. And our members get a discount at many businesses when they show their membership card.

Good Concept, But Is It Legal?

Yes, it's legal. Many believe it is illegal to write-on or stamp US currency -- but they are WRONG. We do not provide legal advice, however, the governing law is clear, see below:

• 18 USC Sec 333 says that you cannot deface US currency "with intent to render [it] ... unfit to be reissued". Our members have no intention of rendering any currency unfit to be reissued.

• 18 USC Sec 475 says you cannot use an image of US currency in advertising or put an ad on the currency. We are not using any US currency in advertising. Our members are simply using it to make a statement that is not advertising any commercial service. The Foundation itself is a non-profit organization and our members decide how they want to express their views - we  inform them of ways to do it.

Is There Any Precedent ?

If the laws are not enough - how about nearly 10 years of precedent. Since 2012 a Progressive political group doing the same thing with no legal issues during all that time. They are called "Stamp Stampede" (see https://stampstampede.org ).During this time, they have organized an army of hundreds of people who have stamped US currency and there have been hundreds of media reports about the group. In fact, their leader has even stamped US currency on national TV. Their website even represents that have secured a legal opinion from a constitutional law expert that this activity is legal. Well, if they can do it for nearly 10 years, surely our members can too.
